Louisiana and Street Food in Denmark

I was in Copenhagen for work recently and had a bit of time to wander around. The city itself is a great place; full of food and interesting things to see (for a great guide to Copenhagen with beautiful pictures, see Hand Luggage Only’s Copenhagen guide.) My favorite moments, however, were actually spent at the beautiful and tranquil Louisiana just outside of the city.

Louisiana is an art museum housed on the former estate of Alexander Brun whose three wives were all named Louise (hence, the name). The collection here is stunning and nicely curated and the grounds offer amazing views of the sea. They had a fantastic exhibit on Peter Doig when I was there. You can reach Louisiana via the train; it’s a 30 minute ride from Norreport station and then a 10 minute walk once you are in Humlebaek.

On the way back, if you’re feeling hungry, my favorite place for food in Copenhagen is Copenhagen Street Food (this is possibly because I really like tasting many different things in a meal). There are many tasty food stalls here (I like Copper and Wheat for duck-fat fries and La Brasa for their brazilian bbq) and plentiful seating with views of the harbor. Be sure to also get a gin and tonic with Geranium gin to compliment your meal.  The best way to get here is via HarbourBus (same ticket as your metro ticket) from Nyhavn. Look for the yellow sign all the way at the end of the street along the canal.
